Portugal’s court rules against referendum on short-term rentals

Portugal’s constitutional court rejected a proposal to hold a referendum on ending short-term rental housing in Lisbon, where many locals are struggling to find affordable housing.

The country’s top court said in a warrant on its website that the minimum requirements for holding the referendum were not met, including the collection of a sufficient number of signatures from registered voters. The court’s ruling came after Lisbon’s municipal assembly last month approved a proposal to hold the referendum.
