Laura Caron Arrested: Middle Township Elementary School teacher accused of having sex and baby with student

BETWEEN TWP., NJ — A South Jersey teacher is facing charges after she allegedly fathered a child with a student she is accused of sexually assaulting in her home several years ago.

Laura Caron, 34, of Cape May Court House, was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The alleged crimes took place between 2016 and 2020 at the suspect’s Cape May Court House home.

Authorities say the victim was 13 and living with Caron, then 28, when their child was born in 2019.

The case came to light when the victim’s father made a social media post in December 2024 saying Caron’s 5-year-old child looked a lot like him and his son, according to investigators.

Authorities say Caron taught the victim and his brother 5th grade at Middle Township Elementary School.

Over the years, the victim’s parents said the family became friends with Caron, which eventually led to them even allowing their boys and daughter to stay at Caron’s home at times. The visits began one to two nights a week, but the children lived permanently with Caron from 2016 to 2020, authorities revealed in court documents.

The victim’s sister, who at one time lived in Caron’s home, reportedly told police she believed her brother was about 11 years old when he started sleeping with his teacher in the same bed.

According to the criminal complaint, the sister revealed that the children would be sleeping in a shared room on the second floor, but noted that her brother would be in Caron’s bed the next morning. She also reportedly told officers that when her brother would take a shower, Caron would go into the bathroom and lock the door.

In a text message to his sister, the victim allegedly admitted he was the father of Caron’s 5-year-old child and requested it be kept secret.

The victim’s brother, who also lived in Caron’s home, allegedly saw Caron sexually assault his brother on one occasion when they thought he was asleep.

During an interview with the victim, police say the victim confirmed that he had a sexual relationship with his teacher and that he was the father of her child. The victim reportedly said he was in contact with the teacher until his father made the Facebook post in December.

“When the district was first informed of the allegations, the staff member was immediately placed and remains on paid administrative leave. Further questions should be directed to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office,” said Middle Township School District Superintendent Dr. David Salvo in a statement to ABC Philadelphia affiliate WPVI.

Caron is being held behind bars at the Cape May County Correctional Center.

“I want to personally assure the parents of Middle Township that we are taking every step possible to ensure the safety of our children. Our department is working closely with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure that all aspects of this case are thoroughly investigated,” said Middle Township. Township Police Chief Tracey Super in a statement.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Middle Township police or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
