Australian Open Day 7 Predictions including Navarro vs Jabeur

We wrap up the third round of the Australian Open on Day 7, with eight women’s matches to decide who reaches Round 4. As always, we here at LastWordOnTennis will share their thoughts on each match. We split today’s eight matches between this and a separate article – featuring Iga Swiatek vs Emma Raducanu. Jordan Reynolds, Manuel Traquete and Andreas Pelekis predict these matches. Who do you think will move on?

Australian Open Day 7 Women’s Predictions

Madison Keys vs Danielle Collins

Jordan:
Expect Keys to receive almost all crowd support after Collins taunted the Aussie fans after beating Destanee Aiava. Keys did not come through convincingly in the final round and was not at the level seen during her run to the Adelaide International title. I feel Collins can thrive as the pantomime villain and reach the fourth round.
Prediction: Collins in 3rd

Manual:
Keys has started 2025 in superb form and looks like a real dark horse in this tournament, while Collins did himself no favors by antagonizing the Australian crowd in the previous round. Given current form, Keys should be able to advance here.
Predictions: Enter 2

Andreas:
A big battle is on the cards here. Keys is an impressive 9-1 on the 2025 season, and her forehand has looked as dangerous as ever. I see her being able to break through Collins’ less powerful game in a good three-set match.
Prediction: Enters 3

Eva Lys vs Jaqueline Cristian

Jordan:
Cristian will probably be the aggressor in this match. Light can weather a storm and I expect this to go to the wire. Overall, the Romanian is narrowly favored to triumph.
Prediction: Cristian in 3rd

Manual:
By placement, this is easily the worst match of the day, but it should be quite interesting, with both players surely itching for this rare opportunity for a deep Slam run. All three of their previous matchups were close, but Lys ended up coming out on top in all of them, and the same has to happen again here.
Prediction: Light in 3

Andreas:
What an opportunity for both players here. Lys, a lucky loser, has nothing to lose after two big wins, while Cristian is yet to drop a set. This game should come down to nerves and handling the pressure of making the second week a slam dunk. In the margin, Cristian may be the slight favorite due to her experience on the WTA Tour.
Prediction: Cristian in 3rd

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Veronika Kudermatova

Jordan:
Kudermetova played very well to beat Katie Boulter but I like Haddad Maia’s chances here. The Brazilian is adept at soaking up pace and pressure and frustrating his opponents. Kudermetova often fights opponents who use that style.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 2

Manual:
Despite the large difference in location, the level difference, especially on this surface, is marginal at best. Kudermetova has played quite well this week and has great chances to continue her run here.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3

Andreas:
Kudermetova got a big win over Katie Boulter in the second round, but it will be a tough fight for the Russian. Haddad Maia won the pair’s last two matches in Asia last fall, not dropping a set. I see that the Brazilian has too much confidence here, especially because she was less on the field in the second round.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 2

Emma Navarro vs Ons Jabeur

Jordan:
Navarro narrowly dug out two results to reach the third round, but she cannot afford to be below her best against Jabeur. The Tunisian has endured the last 12 months hard. However, she is the type of player who could come alive in front of a supportive crowd if Navarro is out. The American’s impressive mentality makes me sure that she will know how to be ready from the start in this competition.
Prediction: Navarro in 2nd

Manual:
Navarro is one of the fastest rising players on the tour, but Jabeur is very experienced at this level, having come close to winning a Slam several times before. She could use that experience to pull through here and start another deep Slam run.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Andreas:
This should be an exciting matchup due to the contrast in styles. Jabeur’s difficult serve and variety will pose a challenge for Navarro, who has battled through several three-setters. Navarro was ranked lower at the time, but Jabeur won their lone match 6-3 6-2 in 2022. Navarro will win if she can limit her unforced errors, but I’m picking the upset here.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3
