Schedule, channels, times for Saturday’s playoff games

And then there was one.

The NFL has dominated pretty much every day of the week this year, with Tuesday being the only one that didn’t make the cut. As we get closer to the end of the season, those days are starting to open up.

It’s the final Saturday of the campaign, which means there are only three game days left before the offseason. The weekends have shrunk from 16 games to six and now just four, with two more scheduled Saturday’s divisional round.

The chiefs and Texans kick it off from Kansas City. This is a rematch of their Week 16 matchup, which the home team won. Patrick Mahomes’ teams enter as heavy favorites as they begin their quest to make history with a third consecutive Super Bowl victory.

In the nightcap, that Lions welcome the upstart Commanders in what should be a fun, high-scoring affair. Fresh off a bye week, Detroit is hoping a week’s rest will do wonders for a group that has had so many injuries recently. Meanwhile, Washington’s Jayden Daniels can inch closer to becoming the first rookie quarterback to start a Super Bowl with a win.

Saturday will give us our first two conference finalists and should provide plenty of entertaining action. Here’s everything to know about the doubleheader so you don’t miss a moment.

Story lines for today’s NFL games

  • The Chiefs and Texans play their second game of the season on Saturday, with the first coming less than a month ago in Week 16. Houston lost Tank Dell to a season-ending injury in that game, a player they haven’t been able to replace . It’s also the third postseason matchup between these teams ever, with the Chiefs winning the last two. They last met in 2020, when Houston blew a 21-0 lead and lost.
  • Despite their 15-2 record, Kansas City has been vulnerable all season. With the Texans’ defense being the difference in the wild-card round, they need a repeat performance to have a chance at the upset.
  • No rookie quarterback has ever started a Super Bowl, but they have seen some magical rides end in the conference championship round. Daniels needs two wins to make history. The Commanders’ offense is fast-paced, but their ability to run the clock in the wild card round against Tampa provided a formula for how to pull off the upset.
  • The Lions rushing attack should get a significant boost with the return of David Montgomeryrestores the league’s best running back duo with Jahmyr Gibbs. Detroit’s run offense vs. Washington’s run defense is a mismatch, making it show.
  • Battle of the Danes. Campbell and Quinn are two of the most aggressive coaches in the league, which means field goals and punts might not be a common sight in Detroit this weekend. They will not hesitate to rely on their offense so that a failed attempt could turn the game.
