American Tommy Paul crushes Davidovich Fokina to reach quarters in Melbourne

American Tommy Paul, the no. 12 seed, beat Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Sunday.

Paul, who is ranked as no. 11, will face the winner of the match between the Frenchman Ugo Humbert, no. 14, and German Alexander Zverev, the next seed.

Earlier in the tournament, the American defeated the Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-5), the Japanese Kei Nishikori (6-7 (3), 6 -0, 6-3, 6-1) and the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (7-6, 6-2, 6-0).

Davidovich Fokina, ranked no. 66, beat Chinese Juncheng Shang (7-6 (1), 5-2 ret.), Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, no. The 29th seed (6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3) and Jakub Mensik (3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6 -4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
