Donald Trump signs ‘close to 100 executive orders’ – as he is set to become America’s 47th president | american news

Donald Trump will become the 47th President of the United States today – marking a stunning return to the White House for the businessman and former reality TV star.

Today’s inauguration comes after four tumultuous years out of office that featured assassination attempts and several serious lawsuits against the 78-year-old.

Mr. Trump will be sworn in at the US Capitol Rotunda buildings instead of outdoors due to cold weather in Washington DC – the first time this has happened in 40 years.

How Trump’s inauguration will unfold

Capital One Arena in Washington will host a live screening of the ceremony – expected to start at 17.00 UK time – as well as the presidential parade.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and former presidents will attend the swearing-in ceremony – but Barack Obama’s wife Michelle in particular will be absent without any explanation.

Trump has invited several world leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping, Argentina’s Javier Milei and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, to his inauguration – the first president-elect to do so.

Several high-profile “tech bros” will also be in attendance, including Trump’s close confidant Elon Musk, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew – fresh from the American ban which saw the app shut down for several hours before the president-elect said he would end the ban.

US officials have said they do not expect any major disruptions or protests on inauguration day.
