A popular TikTok trend can be done in your own gym without costing you any extra money. Fitness competition Hyrox has been dominating the TikTok For You page lately, thanks to the likes of Molly-Mae’s sister Zoe Hague and her husband Danny Rae.

Seen as a ‘badge of honour’ for many, the timed training challenge combines running with eight functional training stations. You run five miles inside, with each mile broken up with exercises like rowing, SkiErg, burpee broad jumps and wall balls.

The competition can be run in pairs, mixed sex, same sex or solo. Hyrox occur all over the world, from Dublin and Paris to London and Stockholm – the closest to Merseyside is Manchester. The next official dates are Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th January.

But with many wanting to get in on the action, it can be difficult to secure a place in the competition – at least officially. Fortunately, a simulation workout that tests your endurance and strength in a similar way can be done in your own gym.

Hyrox training

  • Run a km (or equivalent distance)
  • Row 500 meters
  • Sled Push (weight depending on your fitness level)
  • Burpee wide jumps (10-15 reps)
  • Wall balls (10-15 reps)
  • Run another km
  • Repeat the circuit as needed, depending on your fitness level.

First launched in Germany in 2017, Hyrox has quickly established itself as one of the fastest growing sports in the world with races in more than 11 countries and over 30 cities.

Each race is held indoors in expansive exhibition halls, helping to create an “immersive and electrifying race” where spectators can support you from start to finish.

This race format remains consistent worldwide, allowing for global rankings and a cumulative world championship at the end of each race season. Accommodating both professional athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts looking to take their workouts to the next level, Hyrox is said to be “the sport for everyone.”
