John Daly hospitalized and undergoing emergency surgery

John Daly has been hospitalized in Florida and has undergone emergency surgery on his hand.

The 58-year-old revealed the news on Instagram with a photo from her hospital bed, captioning the image: ‘Emergency hand surgery… thankful (it) went great and Doc McClimans for looking after me. Play again in no time!’

In a separate post, with the location labeled as Tampa, Florida, he added: ‘Should hit them again soon! Thanks for all the messages.’

Daly did not reveal much more about his condition, but the hospital photo appears to show his left hand bandaged.

A huge fan favorite in the golf world, Daly has never made any effort to hide his hard-living lifestyle.

He is always seen with a lit cigarette on the field and says that he neither drinks water nor eats vegetables.

“I drink Coke, I like to have ice, which to me is water, so I get lots of water in my Coke,” he said in a 2016 interview.

‘Rich Beem calls me “the camel”. I don’t drink water. I hate water. I can’t stand drinking water. I used to drink 12-20 diet cokes a day, I went to McDonald’s three or four times a day. For me they always had the best fountain drink.

‘I don’t eat beans, spinach, broccoli, any of that. When I was young my father forced it down from me and I threw it up.’

Recently, in an appearance on Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel, he claimed he drank ’20 vodkas’ before filming with him.

In September 2020, Daly was diagnosed with bladder cancer, which he later said was benign, but would require regular trips to his doctor for the next five years.

“Oh, I started drinking at nine o’clock this morning,” Daly said in the video to DeChambeau. ‘Maybe the 20th. I’ve slowed down a bit’.

CBS reporter Will Brinson once infamously tweeted that Daly, after following the golfer during the 2008 Wyndham Championship, smoked 21 cigarettes.

“Followed him for 18 holes, followed his every move, took careful notes every time he reached for his golf bag, took a bite or a sip or a sip,” Brinson said.

The two-time major winner has known Trump since the 1990s and played golf with him

‘The first few holes were just kind of eye-opening. By the last nine, I realized I was essentially watching someone play a perfect game.

‘The final tally of literally everything he put into his body over the course of 18 holes: 21 cigars 12 Diet Cokes 6 packs of Peanut M&M’s 0.0 ounce of water.’

Despite his cancer scare and other health issues, such as being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in 2019, Daly hasn’t shown too many signs of his lifestyle catching up to him so far.

He brought in 2025 by sharing a video of him hitting a drive-through across a road – after checking for oncoming traffic – all with a lit cigarette in his mouth.

Daly, a two-time major winner, finished 2024 competing at the PNC Championship with his one – against Tiger Woods and his son Charlie.

The golfer is also a huge Donald Trump supporter and often refers to him as ‘Daddy’.

When Trump won the 2024 election, Daly said: ‘Our country needs Daddy Trump and what he did… (when) he became president, our 45th…. What he did for four years was a miracle.’
