A Winter Storm Watch was issued for our entire area Wednesday afternoon and is expected to last until Saturday morning.

Forecast:

  • Last clear and cold day before the winter storm sets in tomorrow.

  • The mountains have some light snow again this morning, with bitterly cold temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero.

  • Sunshine in the metro, with highs again in the lower 40s.

  • We will stay dry Friday morning and then the snow will start to pick up at least in the early afternoon. The first batch of snow could give us an inch or more in spots before changing to a wintry mix in the late afternoon and evening.

  • The highest snow totals remain confined to the mountains, with several inches, but amounts drop to just as close to an inch or less from Charlotte to the south.

  • Sleet and freezing rain will increase overnight into very early Saturday morning. This will continue to make travel a dangerous area wide.

  • Skies will clear early Saturday and temperatures will return to above freezing around noon.
